Purpose is one of the most overlooked principles of Think And Grow Rich.
Most people, read Think And Grow Rich, focus on the exciting 'steps to riches'. But if you've ever seen a dog chase his own tail then you know what it's like to see activity without progress. Purpose directs your efforts.
Some time ago I was at a crossroad. You see, I had left my job as a police officer. And the printing business I started had failed. That was a mentally painful time. I needed direction and focus.
So I sat down at the public library with a huge stack of books. And began the process of finding my life purpose. It took hours. But those hours have given me years of enjoyment and they've rewarded me ever since. Discovering my purpose led me to a successful career in software and now it's led me to you.
So be sure to find your purpose. Do it and you'll be rewarded over and over again.

How the Think & Grow Rich Philosophy Helped put a Man on the Moon!
Where were you when Neil Armstrong took man's first step on the moon?
Maybe you weren't even born. Maybe you never knew or realized what tremendous power blasted Armstrong and his crew into outer space and on to the moon.
- It wasn't a rocket.
- It wasn't liquid fuel.
- It wasn't anything visible.
Napoleon Hill in his classic book, THINK & GROW RICH, put it this way, "Those who succeed in life have a definite purpose as the starting point from which one must begin. That definiteness of purpose takes on animation, life and power when backed by a burning desire to translate that purpose into its material equivalent."
President Kennedy molded and launched that purpose during the early years of the sixties. He told the nation, "We choose to go to the moon in this decade...not because it is easy but because it is hard. Because that goal (definite purpose) will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills."
So how can you apply this bit of history toward putting power in your own successful life?
Ask yourself, do I have a defined purpose for my life? Do I have a burning desire?
Perhaps you really don't consider having such a desire important. If so, THINK again.
When Kennedy uttered the above words, this country's confidence in our space program was at a low ebb. Russia had beaten us into orbit and there didn't seem to be any way we could catch up.
But Kennedy didn't consider failure. He told all Americans, "We are going to win in space. In fact, before the end of this decade we will put a man on the moon and bring him back home."
That PURPOSE was the real power behind the moon launch on July 20, 1969. And that same power can launch your life.

Keep in mind that your purpose is only a beginning.
Let's look more closely at those years between the time Kennedy established our nation's purpose in space and the actual launch.
Apollo 1 cost the lives of three astronauts during training and testing. A lot of people wanted to quit. The cost was too high. The risk too great.
But as Napoleon Hill said, "No follower of this philosophy can reasonably expect to accumulate a fortune (succeed), without experiencing temporary defeat. When defeat comes, accept it as a signal that your plans are not sound, rebuild those plans and set sail once more toward your coveted goal."
At one time there were almost 400,000 people either employed by or under contract to NASA. All these people were focused on achieving one objective...a man on the moon. Napoleon Hill calls that 'Organized Planning', which is the sixth step to riches.
In the end, man was only on the moon for five hours. Was it worth it?
Absolutely! And for a lot of reasons.
Having reached the goal of putting a man on the moon, it made reaching future space goals easier. This meant longer moon visits and the establishment of a space station.
It's that way with your own goals. They always become stepping stones to new and bigger goals.
For example, have you ever known a successful business person who suddenly went bankrupt? Within a year or less, they were often right back up on top with a business that was even more successful than the one they lost.
Sometimes we like to think they were born under a lucky star. But that's not the case.
Having been successful in the past gives an individual the faith and power to achieve greater success in the future. Once having learned the philosophy of Think & Grow Rich, they can pick themselves up, brush off their success desire, and move on.
Sometimes they choose to move into a new field. Success still comes because the Think & Grow Rich techniques can be applied to any endeavor. Only those who give up ever fail to reach or regain the heights.
As you journey toward your desire, keep it fun!
Remember, the journey is always much longer than the celebration. So enjoy the journey.
And, of course, after celebrating, you want to begin another journey. This means that you are always on a ourney...always expanding and growing. If the journey ever truly ends, life is over. You may continue living, but like a flower that is finished blooming, you are in the process of dying.
So have fun along the way. If necessary, use your imagination to make the journey more enjoyable. As Dennis Waitly has said, "When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change."
One last thought about the moon goal.
The stay on the moon only lasted five hours. But hundreds of inventions that were created to reach that goal now enrich our lives. And that's the way it should be with any goal.
The goals that you set should not only help you succeed, but also help others to also be more successfully. And when your burning desire encompasses that thought, it will really catch fire.

SICKNESS AND RELATED LEAVE: We will no longer accept a doctor statement as proof of sickness. If you are able to go to the doctor,
you are able to come to work.
SURGERY: Operations are now banned. As long as you are an employee here, you need all your organs. You should not consider removing anything. We hired you intact. To have something removed constitutes a breach of employment.
BEREAVEMENT LEAVE: This is no excuse for missing work. There is nothing you can do for dead friends, Relatives or coworkers. Every effort should be made to have non-employees attend to the arrangements. In rare cases, where employee involvement is necessary, the funeral should be scheduled in the late afternoon. We will be glad to allow you to work through your lunch hour and subsequently leave one hour early, provided your share of the work is done enough.
YOUR OWN DEATH: This will be accepted as an excuse. However, we require at least two weeks notice as it is your duty to train your own replacement.
